Getting Started

What is CheEspañol? +

CheEspañol is a personalized 1-on-1 Spanish learning academy. You get live lessons with a dedicated teacher, a mobile app to track your progress, recorded lessons to review anytime, homework with teacher feedback, and a vocabulary flashcard system — all designed around your pace, goals, and interests.

Who is CheEspañol for? +

Anyone who wants to learn Spanish — regardless of age, background, or current level. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your conversation skills, we build a personalized learning roadmap just for you.

How do I sign up? +

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with your Google or Apple account. That's it — no forms, no passwords. You'll be on your dashboard in seconds.

What happens in my free trial lesson? +

Your first lesson is free and designed to get to know you. Your teacher will learn about your goals, interests, and background, then run a series of exercises across different topics to map your actual Spanish level. By the end, you'll have a personalized level assessment, a recommended lesson pack, and a clear view of your learning roadmap. No commitment required.

What is the teaching method? +

We use full immersion — every lesson is 100% in Spanish from day one, no matter your native language. Your teacher guides the conversation, but you do most of the talking. Lessons, homework, and vocabulary are all personalized to your profession, hobbies, and interests, so you're always practicing with content that matters to you.

Lessons

How long are lessons? +

Lessons last between 30 and 45 minutes. Quality matters more than clock time — your teacher adjusts the pace to keep the lesson effective and engaging.

What's the lesson format? +

Every lesson follows a consistent structure:

  1. Greeting & small talk (~5 min) — warm up in Spanish
  2. Homework review (up to 10 min) — go over your submitted exercises
  3. Previous topic recap (5-10 min) — reinforce what you learned last time
  4. New content (~20 min) — learn and practice a new topic
  5. Homework & goodbye (~5 min) — get your next assignment and a preview of the next lesson
Are lessons in Spanish only? +

Yes. Every lesson is conducted entirely in Spanish, regardless of your native language. This is intentional — full immersion is the fastest path to real fluency. Your teacher adapts their vocabulary and speed to your level, so you're always challenged but never lost.

What do I need for a lesson? +

A device (phone, tablet, or computer) with Zoom installed and a stable internet connection. Your teacher will send you the video call link through the app once your lesson is booked.

What happens if my teacher can't make the lesson? +

If your teacher is unable to attend a scheduled lesson, please contact us as soon as possible at support@cheespanol.com. We'll arrange another lesson for you at the earliest time that works for you. Your lesson credit is always protected.

Recordings

Are lessons recorded? +

Yes. Every lesson is automatically recorded and saved to your account. You can rewatch any past lesson whenever you want — it's like having a personal archive of your entire learning journey.

Where can I watch my recordings? +

Go to My Lessons in the app. Each past lesson shows its recording along with any attachments or notes from that session. Recordings are available permanently — they never expire.

Pricing

How much do lessons cost? +

Lessons are purchased in packs. The per-lesson price depends on the pack size:

PackLessonsPricePer Lesson
Starter4$100$25
Standard8$184$23
Intensive12$252$21

Larger packs offer a better per-lesson rate.

What lesson packs are available? +

We offer three packs:

  • Starter (4 lessons) — $100. Great for trying things out with no big commitment.
  • Standard (8 lessons) — $184. The most popular choice for consistent weekly practice.
  • Intensive (12 lessons) — $252. Best value per lesson, ideal if you want to progress quickly.

When you finish a pack, you can buy another one anytime.

Do lesson credits expire? +

No. Your lesson credits never expire. Use them at your own pace — there's no rush.

Is the platform free? +

Yes. The app is completely free to use — forever. You get full access to your dashboard, lesson recordings, flashcards, homework, progress tracking, and all platform features at no cost. You only pay when you purchase a lesson pack for live 1-on-1 lessons with your teacher.

Scheduling

How do I book a lesson? +

Open the Calendar in the app. You'll see available slots for this week and next week (Monday through Saturday). Tap any open slot and your lesson is booked instantly. You'll see a quick confirmation with an option to undo within a few seconds.

How far in advance can I book? +

You can book lessons for the current week and the following week (Monday through Saturday). This gives you a full view of available slots without overwhelming you with too many options.

Can I book a same-day lesson? +

No. The earliest you can book is tomorrow. This gives your teacher time to prepare a personalized lesson for you, which is key to making each session count.

What timezone are lessons shown in? +

All lesson times are automatically displayed in your local timezone. The app detects your timezone when you sign up, and you can change it anytime in Settings.

Cancellation

How do I cancel a lesson? +

Open the Calendar in the app, tap your booked lesson, and cancel it. As long as you cancel before midnight the day before your lesson, your lesson credit is returned and the slot opens up for rebooking.

What's the cancellation policy? +
  • Cancel before midnight the day before your lesson: Free. Your lesson credit is returned.
  • Cancel on the day of your lesson: Your lesson credit is consumed. No exceptions.

The rule is simple — cancel by the end of the day before, and you keep your credit.

Can I reschedule a lesson? +

Yes. Rescheduling works as a cancel-and-rebook. Cancel your current lesson (the normal cancellation rules apply), then book a new slot from the calendar. There's no limit to how many times you can reschedule within a pack.

What happens if I miss a lesson? +

If you don't show up and haven't canceled before midnight the day before, your lesson credit is consumed. Your teacher prepared and reserved that time for you, so we can't return the credit. We'll reach out to make sure everything's okay and help you rebook your next session.

Payments

What payment methods are accepted? +

We accept all major payment methods. The available options are shown at checkout and may vary depending on your region.

Can I get a refund? +

Lesson credits are non-refundable. Since credits never expire and there's no subscription to cancel, you can always use your remaining credits whenever you're ready to continue.

Where can I see my invoices? +

Go to the Billing section in the app. You'll find your pack purchase history and invoices there.

Referrals

How does the referral program work? +

Every student gets a personal referral code. Share it with a friend — when they sign up and buy their first lesson pack, you earn 1 free lesson credit. There's no limit to how many friends you can refer.

How do I share my referral code? +

Go to the Free Lesson! section in the app menu. You'll see your referral code and a share button that lets you send it via any messaging app. You can also share the link directly: cheespanol.com/ref/YOUR-CODE.

When does my friend need to use the code? +

Your friend can apply your referral code anytime before they buy their first lesson pack. Once they make their first purchase, it's too late to add a code. They can enter it during sign-up or later in their Settings.

Are there any discounts? +

Yes, you can earn up to 10% off your next pack through two stackable rewards:

  • Pack Loyalty (5% off): Finish a pack, and your next purchase gets 5% off.
  • Referral Reward (5% off): When a friend you referred buys a pack, you also get 5% off your next purchase.

These are the only discounts we offer — no coupon codes, no seasonal sales. Just honest rewards for commitment and word-of-mouth.

Homework

How does homework work? +

After each lesson, you'll receive a short assignment on the platform. You can submit your answers as text, audio recordings, or file uploads. Your teacher reviews your work and provides feedback, which you'll discuss together at the start of your next lesson.

When is homework available? +

Your homework is available immediately after your lesson ends. You can start right away while the lesson is fresh, or save it for later — it's up to you.

How long does homework take? +

About 10 minutes. Homework is designed to reinforce what you learned without being overwhelming. Some exercises are auto-graded (multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank), while others are reviewed personally by your teacher.

How do I get feedback on my homework? +

Your teacher reviews your submissions and leaves feedback on the platform. Auto-graded exercises (multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank) give you results instantly. For everything else, your teacher will go over the corrections with you at the start of your next lesson.

Vocabulary

What is the flashcard system? +

The app includes a built-in vocabulary trainer with the 625 most commonly used Spanish words, organized by category (animals, food, body, colors, verbs, and more). Each flashcard shows an image and the Spanish word — no translations. This trains you to think in Spanish from the start.

How do I unlock new vocabulary? +

Vocabulary categories start locked. Each lesson you complete unlocks one or more related categories. For example, a lesson about food will unlock the food vocabulary deck. This keeps your flashcard practice connected to what you're learning in class.

How does spaced repetition work? +

Spaced repetition is a proven memory technique that shows you words just before you're about to forget them. The app automatically schedules your reviews — you just open the Top 625 Words section and practice whatever's due. Words you find easy appear less often; words you struggle with come back more frequently until they stick.

Progress

How is my progress tracked? +

Your dashboard shows everything at a glance: completed topics, vocabulary learned, total lesson hours, your current CEFR level, and what's coming next. Your teacher also curates a view of your strengths and areas for improvement, so you always know where you stand.

What are streaks? +

A streak counts the consecutive days you've engaged with the app — reviewing flashcards, completing homework, or attending a lesson. It's a simple way to build a daily habit. Your streak is visible on your dashboard.

What are achievement badges? +

Badges are milestones you earn as you progress — things like completing your first lesson, finishing a pack, reaching a new CEFR level, or maintaining a long streak. They're visible in the My Progress section and serve as a record of how far you've come.

Account

How do I change my timezone? +

Go to Settings in the app and update your timezone. This affects how lesson times are displayed throughout the app. Your timezone is auto-detected when you first sign up, but you can change it anytime (for example, if you travel).

Can I customize my learning preferences? +

Yes. In Settings > Content Personalization, you can update your hobbies, profession, learning goals, preferred lesson pace, vocabulary focus areas, and more. Your teacher uses this information to tailor lesson examples and homework to topics that actually interest you.

How do I delete my account? +

Go to Settings and select Delete Account. Account deletion requires a brief review to check your billing status. Once confirmed, your account and personal data will be removed. If you have unused lesson credits, make sure to use them first — they cannot be refunded.

How do I contact support? +

Email us at support@cheespanol.com. You can also find this at the bottom of the Help section in the app. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.
